'Cybercide' or 'bullycide' are names that have been created to describe the suicides being committed by young people because of online bullying. The idea that new terms had to be coined only goes to highlight the epidemic this is becoming.
But even beyond that worst case scenario, every day people of all ages are losing - jobs, scholarships, their freedom, and a whole host of other opportunities - because of the things they post online. Young people are most vulnerable to the damaging effects of a negative online reputation, because the things they post today will follow them around the web for the rest of their lives.
This easy video course will help you, the parent, arm yourself with the knowledge you need to help your child avoid these pitfalls. You'll gain a better understanding of the risks inherent in social media. We'll cover some of the most popular social networks with kids and educate you on what to look out for with each one. Sexting, group chat, and messaging is explained, and we even help you speak some of the secret "language" that your kids use with abbreviations and emoji. Finally, a list of resources is provided, along with tips on how to start the conversation with your child about how to be a good digital citizen.
If you have a child with a smartphone, this course is for you!
